So, if that is the Republicans idea of free market, I hope the “Public Plan” puts everyone one of them out of business. They have had plenty of warning to get their shit together. What did they think was going to happen. They gambled that since Hillary failed at it, it would never come up again! Pretty soon it will be single payer! God Speed!

The reason why we have a health care problem is because we have made health care a commodity. It is not a commodity, it is a necessity. we are consumers and capitalism needs healthy consumers in order to have capitalism survive and prosper.

Health insurance right now IS NOT free market capitalism. FMC is when you go to your local hardware store to buy a hammer and it costs $20.00. Then you go to Home Depot and you can buy the hammer for $15.00. That is free market capitalism. You need a kidney, your fucked!
Right on Corydon! My father worked for Transamerica Morgage back in the day and he had excellent health insurance, (or so he thought.) He was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and they tried to deny him coverage for his chemo, a once in a week IV that costs $1,200 every week. He got a letter from the insurance company and he made an appointment with them. He showed up with an attorney and myself, and they approved him. Fortunately my Dad had the $, most people don’t.

Amen!!! Phillip. People need to talk to other people with major claims. Any of them can tell you where. You pay the premiums, you need them and they cancel you or just not pay till you go bankrupt and draw off the taxpayers while they cut costs of getting rid of you. It would be ok if you paid and they paid the hospital bill, but It does not work that way. I use to think that it was that way. It is a lie.
What we have in this country is not free market healthcare. We have corporate healthcare protected from all forms of competition by government. As to your “for profit” snidbit, everything is “for profit” the company you baught your: house, care, close, computer..etc. from is for profit. The profit motive is what keeps costs low and quality high. When governments produce or run institutions profit and competition are removed, leading to low amounts of innovation and lower quality of care.
Right wing ideologues, the American Medical Association, and the For Profit Private Health Insurance Industry lobbyists are the biggest adversaries to the concept of America having a single payer health care system. Or what the so called “free market” proponents & righties would love to label as. “Socialized Medicine.”
It will take a lot to make America great.

USA 0 EU 1 CHINA 1 RUSSIA 1 0= No national Health Care. 1= National Health Care. I live in the UK and I along with everyone else pay into a country wide health care system. If I am out on my motorbike and have a crash, I am taken to the hospital and my broken bones are fixed and I receive superb care and all at no cost to me at the time. The National Health System is treasured by the British. The Doctors and Nurses are loved and respected by the people . The system in the USA is shocking & sad.
Anyone who thinks the present system is good must have never been sick, once they get sick (and it will happen) they will see just how bad the system is. Also ask any Canadian if they would switch with America.
